Spanish Trails Guest Room
Guest rooms are often the last place where homeowners invest. But the client who owned this home wanted to prioritize his guest room to impress all of his visitors with a bold, unique design that would feel like it belonged in the trendy Hotel Indigo.
Taking the dramatic, high ceilings, and painting them a mid-tone gray, with deep charcoal for all of the walls gave the space a uniquely cozy feel. This decision alone sets this space apart from most residential guest rooms, which are typically white or beige colored afterthoughts with hand-me-down furniture.
With a moderate budget, we erased the builder-basic, carpeted bedroom with mirrored closet doors and dated white ceiling fan, and created a daringly bold space for visitors to rest and work. The beautiful warm wood tones and deep charcoal set a decidedly masculine foundation, while the bold mustard-colored trim paint highlights the architectural details of the space. The soft gray, velvet bed is a fresh and welcoming place to sleep, and the gorgeous, full-size, midcentury modern-style desk gives longer-staying guests a comfortable area to work. Open storage for hanging clothes and keeping travel bags and other belongings is easy to access and dressed up with a few funky décor elements that amplify the personality in the design. Electrical preparations were made available for wall-mounting a tv above the open storage area in case the homeowner wanted to add a tv to the room down the road.
Special Touches
Every project that HDC works on gives us an opportunity to sprinkle in unique décor pieces to bring out the character of the space. We take pride in finding unexpected ways to customize our spaces, and make subtle calls outs to our clients, like when we selected this Phish concert poster from a show in Las Vegas, which displays the initials PH– a match to the homeowner’s initials.
